N-audio amp cabinet switchers offer versatile solutions for guitarists and music stores. The 4X4 model switches up to 4 amplifiers, while the 8X7 switcher handles up to 8 amps. For most players, 8 amplifiers may be enough. However, collectors with massive amp setups or guitar shops showcasing many amps might need more flexibility. The current 8X7 switcher supports only 8 amps, which can feel restrictive for those with larger collections.
This guide explains how to expand the N-audio 8X7 Amp Switcher to connect more amplifiers by stacking multiple units. Each additional 8X7 unit adds 7 amps, allowing you to scale your setup. With nine 8X7 switchers, you can connect up to 64 amplifiers while using only 9U of rack space. The catch? Only the master units’ speaker cabinets can be used.
This method isn’t exclusive to N-audio switchers. It works with any amp cabinet switcher on the market without built-in expansion features. That said, new improvements to N-audio switchers are already in the works!
Preparation and Enabling the Amps
Use one Master Switcher and one or more Slave Switchers. Each Slave connects to one of the Master’s amplifier insert, as shown in the diagram. To set up the Slave units, press and hold the power attenuator button until it activates. This puts the Slaves in “silent recording” mode, allowing you to switch amplifiers without using cabinets.
Controlling amplifiers on the Master works as usual. First, select a cabinet, then pick an amp. For Slave units, start by selecting the amplifier on the Master where the Slave is connected. For instance, if a Slave Switcher is connected to Amp 8 on the Master, choose Amp 8 from the Master and then select the desired amp on the Slave.
As usual always test each amp at low volume to confirm proper wiring before increasing the volume.
The diagram below shows an example setup with two Slave units. This configuration expands the system to control up to 22 amplifiers, offering significant flexibility for larger setups.

Controlling the System via MIDI
Each amp switcher needs to be set to a different MIDI channel. Once configured, send a sequence of MIDI messages: the first message selects the amp on the Master unit, and the second selects the amp on the Slave unit.
Conclusion
The N-audio 8X7 Amp Switcher provides impressive expandability for larger amp setups. While there are some current limitations, many users have successfully expanded their systems and achieved great results.
